About these squiggle drawing worksheets

A squiggle is the start of something. Each page has a random squiggly line in a big box, and kids decide what it becomes: a snail, a rollercoaster, a dragon or anything else they imagine. Then they draw it, color it and maybe tell its story.

Because every squiggle is different, no two drawings come out the same. Younger kids just turn the squiggle into a picture, and older kids also give their creation a title. Turn the page sideways or upside down to find new ideas.

Skills your child practices

Tips for grown-ups

  • Turn the page around to see the squiggle in new ways.
  • Do one yourself and compare ideas.
  • Ask your child to tell a short story about the picture.

Questions parents ask

What is a squiggle drawing?

It's a drawing game where you start with a random line and turn it into a picture.

Why is squiggle drawing good for creativity?

There's no set answer, so kids practice imagining many possibilities from one starting point.

Is this good for kids who don't like drawing?

Often, yes. The squiggle removes the pressure of the blank page and makes it feel like a game.
